Heartstopper actor Joe Locke joins Agatha: Coven of Chaos cast

On Tuesday, Variety reported that according to sources, Joe Locke (who plays gay teenager Charlie Spring on Netflix’s Heartstopper) will be joining the cast of Disney+’s WandaVision spinoff, Agatha: Coven of Chaos. The spinoff was confirmed by Disney at San Diego Comic Con 2022.

According to Variety’s sources, Locke will be joining Kathryn Hahn, who plays the titular witch who’s now getting her own show, and Emma Caufield Ford, who is set to reprise her role as Dottie from WandaVision. Marvel did not respond for comment about the casting, and Locke’s representatives also declined to comment. What character Locke is playing in the new Marvel show or how they factor into the plot of the spinoff are still unknown at this point in time.

Heartstopper, which is based on the web comic and graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman, was Locke’s acting debut. The show has found great success, and some controversy, on Netflix, and has been renewed for a second and third season on the streaming platform. Since his debut with this show, Locke has also made his theatrical debut, appearing in the play The Trials (written by Dawn King and directed by Natalie Abrahami) at the Donmar Warehouse.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos will presumably shed more light on Kathryn Hahn’s character from WandaVision. In that show, she first appears as the nosy neighbor of Wanda and Vision, Agnes. But, she later reveals herself to be Agatha Harkness, a powerful witch who survived the Salem witch trials and is more than able to give the Scarlet Witch a run for her money. In the finale of the last season of WandaVision, Wanda used her abilities to trap Agatha in Westview (the town they live in) and force her to revert to her Agnes persona.

Where the new Disney+ show will take the witch is anyone’s guess, but it seems that Joe Locke will be along for the ride in some way, shape, or form.
