Latinx in Gaming to host first mobile game jam, Quick Play
On Monday, nonprofit organization Latinx in Gaming announced that it will be hosting its first ever mobile game jam – Quick Play – between October 7 and November 18 of this year. The jam will be hosted through itch.io and will have a prize pool of $80,000 that winning games will be able to use to be fully developed and published on the Google Play Store.
“Latinx in Gaming is thrilled to put on Quick Play to spotlight mobile game developers from all backgrounds,” said Cristina Amaya, Founder, and President of Latinx in Gaming in a press release. “We’re excited to see the creative submissions and are honored to be able to host a platform that will give mobile game developers the chance to show off their talent.”
Latinx in Gaming is a nonprofit (501c3) organization that “serves as a community and platform for Latinx/e individuals across the games industry.” They promote “cultural appreciation, representation, and inclusivity.” The organization uses Twitch and other platforms to host panels, events, and other speaking opportunities for Latinx/e folks in games.
There are no entry requirements to join Quick Play by Latinx in Gaming. The organization “encourages mobile game developers from all heritages to showcase their abilities” in this game jam. There will be an online opening ceremony via Zoom to kick things off on October 7, which will feature a guest speaker from the Latin American mobile game development community. The jam’s theme will also be revealed during this ceremony.
The winners of this jam will be announced on December 9 via the Latinx in Gaming Twitch channel for the jam’s closing ceremony. Four winning teams will receive $20,000 each from the $80,000 incubator fund prize pool, as well as a future featured placement for the jam game on the Google Play Store.
