Butterfly Soup 2 gets release date
On Friday, developer Brianna Lei announced that Butterfly Soup 2 will release on October 29 via Twitter. Lei decided to announce the date today in honor of the first game’s fifth anniversary.
“Happy 5 year anniversary of #ButterflySoup,” Lei wrote on Twitter. “I figured now would be a good time to announce that #ButterflySoup2 is coming out on Oct 29!!!”
Gayming Magazine included the original Butterfly Soup in our Queer Games of the Decade post for a reason. The visual novel follows four Asian-American girls on their school baseball team in California during the Proposition 8 era, which was a 2008 proposition to ban same-sex marriage in the state. The girls are from mostly different ethnic backgrounds and their stories deal with the intersections of those backgrounds, and their gender, sexuality, disability, socio-economic status and more.
Two of the girls, Diya and Min, were childhood friends who were separated when one moved away. They’re reunited when they enter high school and have to reckon with their old feelings for each other. Min and Diya have to deal with who they feel about each other while also navigating relationships with the other two girls in their friend group, and their own parents and other family members.
Players can get the first Butterfly Soup game for free via Brianna Lei’s itch.io page to prepare for the release of the next game in October. Fans who already caught up don’t have long to wait for the next installment, as Butterfly Soup 2 will be out on PC on October 29.
