Boulet Brothers’ Dragula franchise will expand on Shudder
On Monday, Shudder announced that the Boulet Brothers’ Dragula franchise will expand on the AMC streaming service to include a new season, a spinoff series, and an additional special. The new content for the franchise will release over the next calendar year.
According to an exclusive from Variety, the first Dragula project in the queue is a new, full-season spinoff of the original Boulet Brothers’ Dragula reality competition show. The show has reportedly already finished filming and is slated to premiere this fall. In the original series, contestants compete in a variety of challenges including costume-making, live performance, special effects makeup, and more. Its fourth season was one of Shudder’s most watched series in 2021.
The Boulet Brothers are multiple-threats as drag artists, writers, producers, and hosts. They oversee all of the creative aspects of their project, including writing and the business side.
“This is an incredibly exciting time to be a Dragula fan. This new partnership with Shudder (and the AMC family) provides an incredible opportunity for us to expand our cinematic universe and to flesh out all of the characters, stories and stars that audiences have fallen in love with over the years,” said the Boulet Brothers in their interview with Variety. “We couldn’t be more excited about the content that we’re about to unleash, and if fans have felt shocked and engaged with our content in the past, they are truly not ready for what’s coming next. It’s going to be a wild, fun, and terrifying new ride.”
“With ‘The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula and Resurrection,’ the Boulet Brothers have proven to be uniquely talented producers and storytellers, creating innovative, inclusive programming that smashes genres and draws a large and loyal following. We’re excited to be working with them on their upcoming new competition series, with more to come in 2023,” said Craig Engler, Shudder’s general manager.
