All-women GDQ event Flame Fatales kicks off Sunday

On Sunday, August 21, Games Done Quick’s all-women speedrunning event Flame Fatales will begin. The annual event is organized by Frame Fatales and is a charity stream that will broadcast on GDQ’s Twitch channel all week in support of the Malala Fund.

Frame Fatales is GDQ’s all-women speedrunning community. The group hosts two speedrunning marathons each year, Flame Fatales in the summer and Frost Fatales in the winter. These events are organized and produced by volunteers from the community, who gather within the community’s Discord server. Last year’s Flame Fatales event raised $125,000 for the Malala Fund. The Malala Fund was founded in 2013 and is a non-profit that works to secure free, safe, and quality education for girls around the world. The organization is committed to providing 12 years of guaranteed safe, free, and quality education to girls around the world.

GDQ has been around since 2010, using speedrunning to raise money for charitable causes like cancer research/prevention, increased accessibility in the video game industry, and international healthcare. The organizations GDQ has worked with include Able Games, Doctors Without Borders, Organization for Autism Research, and Prevent Cancer Foundation.

The full schedule of speedrunners is available on the GDQ website, but there are plenty of exciting runs on the docket, including:

  • Phasmophobia co-op [any% Nightmare] run by Nichole Goodnight and Bathinjan
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe [Bonus Tracks and DLC Tracks] with amber_cxc
  • Pokemon Legends: Arceus [Beat Kleavor] with kaguyanicky
  • Stardew Valley [Crafts Room] with blackheartwings

Viewers will be able to donate to the cause during the Flame Fatales stream week directly on the GDQ home page. 100% of donations received during the Flame Fatales event will go to the Malala Fund. Fans can tune in starting Sunday, August 21 and ending Sunday, August 27.
