EA is saying goodbye to Bioware Points

On Thursday, EA announced that it is retiring Bioware Points as a viable currency in the Origin PC game store on October 11, 2022. Other currencies in Bioware titles on the platform, like Crystals and Platinum, will be unaffected by this change. Because of this new policy, players will be able to download DLC that was previously only available to purchase with Bioware Points for free.

“To support you through this change, most DLC (downloadable content) that was previously only purchasable with BioWare Points are now available free of charge,” EA wrote in an email to customers.

The Bioware titles that now have free DLC via Origin are:

  • Dragon Age II
  • Dragon Age: Origins
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Mass Effect 3 (except multiplayer packs)

Any content that players have purchased with BP previously will still be available to them after the currency is retired from the Origin store. For those who still have Bioware Points currently, they can be used to buy Mass Effect 3 multiplayer packs for the next 90 days. After October 11, Mass Effect 3 multiplayer packs will only be available to purchase with credits players earn in-game.

To access the free DLC content for all of these games, log into your Origin account and access the games in your library. Choose the “extra content” option, and then choose “get it free.” Those who already own definitive editions of these games, like Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition or Mass Effect Legendary Edition, should already have all the content available for free, but those who own the original versions of these games will now be able to snag DLC like Lair of the Shadow Broker and Citadel.
