Apex Legends offers VTuber models for Gaiden event

To help celebrate Apex Legends Gaiden event next week, Respawn announced on Friday that it has released free VTuber models of three Legends who have special skins in the event, Bangalore, Mirage, and Octane. The developers provided files and instructions for how to use them in a blog post.

VTubers are 3D models that are rigged to follow the movements of a streamer. They’re avatars that streamers can use to have an alternate persona on stream. As the technology and understanding of how to use VTubers models has expanded, they’ve grown in popularity rapidly.

The Apex Legends VTuber models are based on Octane’s “Sea Legs” Gaiden event skin, Mirage’s “Marked Man” Gaiden event skin, and Bangalore’s “Apex Commander” prestige skin. The Gaiden event is anime and mangaka themed, so the event cosmetics are as well. Octane’s “Sea Legs” gives him the straw hat pirate vibes of One Piece, while Mirage’s “Marked Man” seems to be an homage to My Hero Academia’s Deku. Bangalore, on the other hand, has gotten a Mythic prestige skin, which casts her firmly in her role as a serious career soldier.

Each model also comes with “unique expressions, animations, HUD overlay, and emotes.” According to Respawn, “these Apex Legends avatars are available to all to use while streaming, creating content and beyond.”

To use these VTuber models, content creators need to download the zip file of the Legend they want, and follow the directions on the PDF within or on the blog post from Respawn. There’s also a video guide in the blog post, if you’re more of a visual learner. The system requirements for these models are as follows:

  • Vtube Studio (Available via Steam for free)
  • USB webcam or compatible iOS device with working camera
