Persona 5 to release on Nintendo Switch this October

Atlus has revealed via social media – as well as the Nintendo Direct Mini event that aired earlier today – that Persona 5 Royale will be heading to the Nintendo Switch this October 21. Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 will release on the platform the following year.

Fans of the latest Persona game have been downright desperate in begging Atlus to port the beloved series onto the handheld console. Now they’ve got their wish, with Persona 5 Royal (and not the original Persona 5) coming to Nintendo Switch.

Persona 5 Royal follows the main protagonist Joker on his first day at the Shujin Academy in Tokyo, Japan. Before the events of the game, it is revealed that he is on probation after allegedly attacking a man who was harassing a woman. Eventually, he meets the rest of his companions, and they form a group called the Phantom Thieves, who dedicate their time to fighting injustice.

The game is beloved by JRPG fans, however, it has often come under fire due to its intolerant attitudes towards the LGBTQ+ community, as well as its sexist portrayal of women. The original game was even worse in this regard, with the Royale version only ‘improving’ the sexist and homophobic moments by making slight, marginal changes.
