All of the LGBTQ+ games shown in Future of Play Direct Season 3
Showcase season is back, and so is the Future of Play Direct. Glitch’s showcase, which aims to highlight games that challenge the status quo of play, went live for its Season 3 Direct on Saturday after the Wholesome Games Direct during Summer Games Fest.
Musician Alex Moukala kicked off the show by performing a medley of video game songs he rearranged to be funky. His setlist included music from Hollow Knight, Celeste, Chicory, Hades, Journey, and Tunic. After that, v-tuber host Melios took over to show off the games. Here’s every queer-related game/announcement from the show.
Boyfriend Dungeon Secret Weapons update
Last year’s Boyfriend Dungeon showed off its upcoming Secret Weapons update, which is adding two new weapon people to romance and battle with. One is Jonah, the blond beach bum we met, but couldn’t romance when the game first came out. He transforms into an axe. The other is a brunette woman named Leah who transforms into a hammer.
Excitingly, the update also features a new villain, Dr. Holmes, who transforms into a whip. This character was created by Ghostwire Tokyo’s Ikumi Nakamura and is voiced by Loserfruit. The Secret Weapons update will arrive sometime this summer.
Hill Agency: Purity/Decay
This game is set in a corrupted utopia of the future year 2262. Players take on the role of detective Meygeen Hill, the star of this noir adventure, as she investigates crimes for the forgotten and downtrodden people of her city. Things change when classic femme fatale Mary enters the picture. Though there’s no direct evidence that this will be a queer game, anyone who’s up on their noir knows the woman who changes everything is always key, and we can’t imagine that will be different for Meygeen. The game will release on August 31, 2022.
Pen Pal Princess update
Pen Pal Princess is an upcoming narrative game about being a princess of a technologically modern world who’s been locked in a dragon guarded tower by her parents to await a proper suitor. The queer romantic comedy visual novel from ceschii crashed the stream to update us on what’s going on with its development. The biggest new feature is even more ways to customize your own player character, and the addition of a new beefy lady knight character who’s ready to beat you up, or send you a letter.
Rocket Adrift shows off Psychroma
The creators of Order a Pizza and Raptor Boyfriend are back to show off what’s next for them, Psychroma, a surreal horror adventure game. This was the world premiere trailer for the game, debuting its protagonist, Haze, who seems to be trapped in a very scary and possibly reality-shifting house with some equally strange and scary other characters.
Love Shore trailer reveals release date
Highly anticipated sci-fi visual novel Love Shore from Perfect Garbage played a new trailer for the game during the showcase, one which finally revealed when the game will be available for players. Alongside showing off the two protagonist options, Sam and Farah, and their NPC companions, the trailer also announced that Love Shore will be available on PC and Xbox on October 21, 2022.
Cartomancy Anthology gets release date
Cartomancy Anthology, a tarot-inspired collection of 22 indie games from various developers around the world, showed off a new trailer and announced that it will launch on Steam and itch.io on August 9, 2022.
We also briefly got to see promos for other queer games ValiDate: Struggling Singles in Your Area, and Spirit Swap.
