Disney debuts 2022 Pride Collection ahead of June

Disney has released its 2022 Pride Collection ahead of Pride Month in June.

The collection, which contains merchandise for fans of Mickey Mouse, Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars, was created by LGBTQIA+ employees and allies at The Walt Disney Company. According to the official Disney website, the merchandise being sold is “a reflection of their incredible contributions and place at the heart of the company.”

“We stand in solidarity with our LGBTQIA+ community everywhere,” The company wrote on their store page.

You can see a selection of the Pride related merchandise below, as well as on Disney’s official store. It is unknown whether this is the entire collection, or if more merchandise will be added in the future.

What’s more, 100% of profits from the Disney Pride Collection from now through to June 30th, 2022 will go directly to organizations and charities that support LGBTQIA+ youth and families. No matter if you purchase something that’s Pixar, Marvel or Star Wars, everything that turns a profit and belongs to the Pride collection will be donated to charity.

According to LA Times, The 2022 Disney Pride Collection is the very first time that pride-related merch has been sold under that name: “a big branding move for a company that has become a conservative target for its support of LGBTQ+ rights.”

However, it hasn’t all been rosy for the company. The House of Mouse has been under the critical eye of the LGBTQ+ community for quite a while, and with good reason due to its donation to every sponsor of the anti-gay “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The company’s support of such a bill has led to many Disney employees speaking out, as well as walking out, in order to protest Disney’s leadership, as well as the censorship of queer love that employees had been forced to curb in order to market to a global audience. In April, following these walkouts and protests, Disney heir Charlee Cora Disney came out as trans and condemned the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
