JOB ALERT: Gayming Magazine Deputy Editor

Are you an LGBTQ journalist or editor with specific interest in esports and streamers?

Gayming Magazine is entering a new phase of growth and development. We are looking to hire a full-time deputy editor with outstanding writing, editing and creative skills. The post will be based in the US, either NYC or remote, and will begin on May 1st.

You will be expected to possess specific knowledge of esports and streaming, with specific relation to LGBTQ+ issues, in addition to general video game, entertainment and fandom knowledge, again with an LGBTQ+ specialism.

Top candidates will display a great understanding of the target audiences and will be able to take ownership of the growth of esports and streaming verticals within the magazine. You will work alongside the Editor to help deliver on the editorial plan. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Selecting articles and planning publication contents
  • Generating ideas for articles and features
  • Reading, writing, and researching features and articles
  • Rewriting, editing and proofreading copy to ensure it is ready to publish
  • Working with senior editorial staff to ensure consistency across whole Gray Jones Media portfolio 
  • Standing in for the Editor when not available due to vacation or absence 
  • Attending relevant events, fairs, and conferences
  • Ensuring that all feature articles comply with ethical codes of practice and legal guidelines
  • Actively raise the profile of the publication
  • Represent the company at various events such as networking meetings, awards ceremonies, and exhibitions.

Skills and Experience:

  • 3 years of work experience as a video games journalist (essential)
  • Demonstrable experience in producing relevant content to target audiences
  • Strong writing, editing and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to nurture long-term relationships with key publication influencers
  • Analytical thinker with strong conceptual and research skills
  • Good understanding of Content Management Systems (CMS)
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Ability to understand and influence target audiences

Salary & Benefits 

Gray Jones Media offers competitive compensation with a starting salary of $48,960 p.a. and a generous benefits package with 28 days paid time off (including federal holidays), 401(K) with a 4% employer match, and a 90% covered health plan.
