Arcadia Fallen arrives on Nintendo Switch today
Arcadia Fallen, a modern fantasy visual novel game that first arrived on PC last year, is now available to play on the Nintendo Switch.
In Arcadia Fallen, players on the role of a young alchemist apprentice who, due to no fault of their own, becomes unwillingly bound to an illegal spirit. That should be bad enough, but then they are suddenly drawn into a tumultuous war between magic and humanity. Not the best way to start a Monday morning, is it?
With so much on their shoulders, players must join a group of misfits (also known as heroes) to not only escape their own doom but save the entire world along the way.
Thankfully you’ll have your skills as an alchemist to help, with new ways to hone your skills, solve crises and assist your companions. This is conveyed through puzzle-orientated gameplay which is easy to learn, but difficult to master. However, the reward of putting the effort in is that you can change the course of the story, so we count that as a win!
Inspired by Nordic fantasy, Arcadia Fallen is a game where roleplay and personal expression trumps all. You’ll be able to customize your protagonist and change their name to whatever suits you and, when you’re happy with your looks, are able to use the dialogue system in order to shape your character’s personality. It isn’t a stagnant personality though – you’ll be able to change as the story develops.
In spite of the world-ending stakes, the debut game from indie dev Galdra Studios prides itself on being a rather intimate experience. Your companions are your lifeblood, and you even have the chance to romance them, with LGBTQ+ inclusivity to boot, if you find yourself fancying any of them. Though don’t worry, if you’d rather just remain friends then that option is there too.
“Making a game that’s about intimacy has been incredibly difficult, and you have no way of knowing if you succeeded, before players can experience the game for themselves. The reception so far has been overwhelming, and we’ve already heard from players who’ve laughed and cried during the game. It’s such a relief to not just hope, but know, you made something that special” says Daniel Svejstrup Christensen, producer at Galdra Studios
Arcadia Fallen is available to play on PC and the Nintendo Switch.
