Jamie Lee Curtis speaks out about her beloved trans daughter Ruby

In a recent interview with People, Jamie Lee Curtis, best known for her role as Laurie Strode in the 1978 film Halloween, has spoken out about her daughter Ruby coming out to her as a trans woman.

According to the publication, it was last year that Ruby sat down her parents, Curtis and writer/director Christopher Guest to introduce them to the real her. However, she found that she couldn’t and in the end, she texted Curtis what she had originally wanted to say.

“It was scary — just the sheer fact of telling them something about me they didn’t know,” Ruby, the daughter of Jamie Lee Curtis tells People. “It was intimidating — but I wasn’t worried. They had been so accepting of me my entire life.”

Fast forward a year later and now Ruby, with Curtis’ support, is speaking out about her transition and the journey she has been through. The struggles, the joy, and the overwhelming amount of support from her loved ones and their willingness to listen to her.

“It’s speaking a new language,” Curis says to People. “It’s learning new terminology and words. I am new at it. I am not someone who is pretending to know much about it. And I’m going to blow it, I’m going to make mistakes. I would like to try to avoid making big mistakes.”

Ruby tells the publication that she knew when she was 16 that she was “different” but due to a bad experience in therapy, she wasn’t ready to come out. It was only several years later that she felt comfortable in telling her boyfriend, now fiancé, that she was trans.

After Ruby came out to her parents, there was a lot of learning to be done for Curtis. But she was more than willing to listen. “You slow your speech down a little. You become a little more mindful about what you’re saying. How you’re saying it. You still mess up, I’ve messed up today twice. We’re human.”
