Marvel fans won the PlayStation Showcase

Today’s PlayStation Showcase offered quite a selection of incredible games for us to look forward to, but I think we can all agree that Marvel fans were the real winners of the night.

While the PlayStation Showcase did show off stand-out games like Forspoken, Tchia, and Tiny Tina’s Wonderland, Insomniac Games and Square Enix fed Marvel fans with some very good, Marvel content that had yet to be seen by players.

First came a quick trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy, showing off the gang as they go up against yet another unbeatable opponent. However, if there’s one thing every fan should know by now is that when the Guardians are involved…anything is possible. Oh, and there’s also a golden retriever who looks like the absolute best boy. Though I’m not entirely sure if you can pet him. Please Eidos Montreal, please let us pet the space dog. I literally won’t ask for anything else again, promise.

Moving on, it was Insomniac Games that really stole the PlayStation Showcase for Marvel fans. First off was a reveal that had 12-year old me near bouncing around the room in excitement: Wolverine. And what a quietly thrilling trailer it was to show off the gruff, yet loveable character that’s been so beloved by X-Men fans for decades!

There was no gameplay trailer for Wolverine, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating what the game could be about. I grew up on FOX’s X-Men films and while it may be an unpopular opinion, I loved them quite a bit and wouldn’t mind something that combines the action of those films with the quiet, disturbing narrative shown in Logan. Again, an unpopular opinion maybe, but a girl can certainly dream!

But Insomniac Games wasn’t finished with just Wolverine, not by a long shot. Despite having released Spider-Man: Miles Morales only last year, that didn’t stop the studio from revealing Spider-Man 2.

Unlike Wolverine, Spider-Man 2 did give away some hints of what to expect. Such as the possibility of Eddie Brock aka Venom being the big bad, as well as a team-up with Miles and Peter? So many questions, so few answers.

No matter how you look at it, Marvel fans are in for a real treat when it comes to video games. It makes you wonder if DC will eventually join the race or not because well, Marvel is on a roll and it doesn’t look like they’re going to stop anytime soon!
