Back 4 Blood comes with a variety of accessibility options

Accessibility options is still such an important thing for all video games to have, and it seems Turtle Rock Studios – the folks behind Back 4 Blood – are in agreement with that.

As spotted by Ben Bayliss over on Can I Play That, a FAQ from Turtle Rock Studios that goes into detail about what players can expect from the Back 4 Blood open beta also explores the game’s many accessibility options too. This is pretty nifty, particularly for those of us (myself included) who struggle with their hearing and need to rely on good, clear subtitles.

The full list of accessibility options for Back 4 Blood can be seen below:

  • Text to Speech – On and Off
  • Text to Speech Voice – Male/Female
  • Text Language
  • Speech to Text
  • Profanity Filter
  • Caption Options (full, gameplay only, conversations only)
  • Caption Font Size
  • Background Opacity on subtitles
  • Different Color Gameplay Captions (protanopia, deuteranopia, tritanopia)
  • Camera Motion Strength
  • Waypoint Opacity
  • Screen Space – change how close the in-game HUD is to the edge of the screen
  • Cross-play enable or disable
  • Voice Chat Matchmaking Preference (yes or no)
  • Reset Game Coach
  • Remappable Keys on Controller and KBM
  • Reticle Options
  • Reticle Color (7 colors)
  • Lower Game Audio for Voice Chat Toggle
  • BG Audio is lowered during dialogue
  • FOV Adjustment
  • Toggle all weapons to be full auto.

As you can see, some of these accessibility options aren’t just great for those who need a little helping hand but are great for those who just want to tweak the game to their needs. I know that I, for one, will be using the ‘background audio being turned down during the dialogue’ option, and sincerely wish that becomes more popular in other video games out there. Some of us like to hear what people are saying over the shooting, y’know!

The Back 4 Blood open beta is set to go live on August 12 to 16. Unlike Early Access players that have obtained the beta through a pre-order or through Twitch drops, this open beta is for everyone and can be accessed via a PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.
