Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 5 finally lets you free Shadowheart

Baldur’s Gate 3 has a new patch on the way next week, and it’ll finally let you do something we’ve all been waiting for: free Shadowheart.

Shadowheart, the mysterious (alright, she literally has Shar symbols all over her but you know what I mean) believer of Shar who we all have a little soft spot for. When Baldur’s Gate 3 first released on Early Access, Shadowheart was first met in a locked pop on the Nautilus ship and despite everything we did, we just couldn’t free her.

It was probably for the best. We did encounter Lae’zel at first, after all, and neither the Gith warrior nor the Cleric seem to have fond feelings for one another. In fact, we’re expecting that with the ability to free Shadowheart in the next Baldur’s Gate 3 patch we’re going to expect even more rivalry between the two.

But this next patch isn’t all just about Shadowheart. Thanks to the community update, we know that Larian Studios have been hard at work in improving the game. There have been over 800 new additional voice lines added to the companions you meet, more cutscenes, and even a lovely new look for our favourite hound, Scratch!

More importantly, there’s now an improved roll system that doesn’t just leave you praying to the RNG gods to give you a good score. It’s called Active Roll and with it players are able to cast spells themselves (or ask their companions to) in order to give them a boost and meet the necessary score. Pretty nifty! Of course, this does mean a spell slot will be used, so be aware of that.

There’s also an update to camp too. Not only will you now have Camp Resources (food, supply packs) that’ll players will need to use in order to get a full rest, but locations of camp will change depending on where you’ve decided to sleep for the night. The Underdark, an underground crypt, the forest, a cavern… Each new location will have you and your party exploring new environments when they set up for the night.
