Katy Perry reveals ‘Electric’ single and album in collaboration with Pokemon

The Pokemon 25th Anniversary continues to be stylish as all hell, recently unveiling a collaboration between Katy Perry and the Pokemon Company for a zinger of a single called ‘Electric.’

The single, alongside other artist contributions from J Balvin, Post Malone and more, will be included in the Pokemon 25: The Album when it releases via Universal Music Group’s Capitol Records sometime this Fall.

As for Katy Perry, her introduction to Pokemon started at an early age when she played the original games on her Game Boy. When she last visited the Pokemon Cafe while touring in Japan, she said that she felt “terribly nostalgic” during the event, and that it took her back to her junior high years. So it was a no-brainer when she got the call to join Post Malone and J Balvin to feature in the 25th-anniversary celebration.

As for ‘Electric’ itself, the music video portrays Perry and Pikachu taking the time to enjoy and explore nature together whilst reminiscing about how they’ve evolved over the years. After a day of exploring, they meditate and we’re treated with a flashback of a younger Perry who used to busk at a farmer’s market, but isn’t sure how to further her career in music. After some encouragement from her friend Pichu – just as a nice nod to Pokemon evolution – encourages Perry to follow her dream and ‘evolve.’

“The song’s themes – resilience, igniting your inner light – have guided my life and also parallel Pokemon’s story and characters. Pikachu is the evolved form of Pichu, so in the video, you see the younger version of me with Pichu and myself in the present day with Pikachu. We both evolve, yet retain a sense of playfulness,” Perry explains.

“Katy Perry has created a vibrant anthem to help us celebrate 25 years of Pokemon with ‘Electric,’ an amazing song about recognizing one’s own journeys and evolving,” said Colin Palmer, vice president of marketing, The Pokemon Company International. “We also hope fans around the world enjoy seeing Pikachu team up with Katy in the music video for ‘Electric,’ which is a wonderful visual accompaniment to the inspirational song.”

What’s more, fans of both Katy Perry and Pokemon will be pleased to hear that an Electric-themed merchandise collection was also unveiled today.
