Release your inner queen in Nintendo’s Miitopia!
If you’ve not been keeping up to date on Miitopia, then we don’t really blame you. Nintendo’s past dealings with anything Mii related has often left those in the queer community feeling awfully sour – particularly after being excluded from Tomodachi Life. However, don’t feel too put out by Miitopia – there are some things included in this remake that has us feeling hopeful.
As this is a remaster of Miitopia, the 3DS game that originally came out worldwide in 2017, a lot of the content remains the same. But this isn’t a bad thing – far from it, actually.
What makes this game so pivotal is that it allows you to use Miis – avatars that you create yourself – for absolutely every game in the RPG adventure that makes up the game. That means yes, if you want to, you can make your overbearing boss the big bad of the adventure, and outfit your adventuring party as your friends and family. Who doesn’t want to kick major arse alongside your bestie?
The thing that certainly doesn’t seem to have changed is that, unlike Tomodachi Life, your Mii’s are capable of having relationships with people that aren’t the opposite sex. Now before we all get too happy about that, let me be clear by stating that these relationships don’t advertise themselves as being romantic in nature. Even when you further your relationship by going out on outings, the game doesn’t give you an actual romance. But hey, if you can hold hands, get heart eyes and go through a life-altering mission together, whose to say you can’t be gay about it?
It isn’t just the relationships you can have that has us excited for this remaster, though. Customization looks incredible: and we aren’t just talking about those fabulous wigs that’d make any drag queen blush! You have the option to customize your horse, which of course means we’re going for the rainbow look, oh yes sir.
If you can’t get enough of Miitopia and need it in your life, you won’t have to wait too long! Miitopia releases on May 21 for the Nintendo Switch.
