The Gayming Awards 2021 Winners Revealed
History has been made with the Gayming Awards 2021 – the very first queer gaming award show.
The Gayming Awards, sponsored by EA Games and broadcast exclusively on Twitch, were designed to celebrate diversity and inclusion throughout gaming – whether it’s through the authentic representation of a video game character, or the incredible people that brought these LGBTQ+ games to life.
Our own editor and founder, Robin Gray, had the following to say on the momentous night: “I am so proud to be able to say we have held the world’s first LGBTQ video game award show! 2020 was truly a watershed moment for LGBTQ inclusion in games and to be able to celebrate it with everyone, although virtually, was amazing! Congratulations to all the winners, well done to all the nominees and thank you again to all our sponsors! See you in 2022!”
Colin Blackwood, EA’s UK & Ireland Country Manager, was also overjoyed by the reception to the Gayming Awards, saying: “congratulations to the amazing nominees and winners celebrated tonight. As a founding partner of the #RaiseTheGame pledge, EA are thrilled to sponsor the inaugural Gayming Awards, celebrating and recognising the power of inclusion of LGBTQ+, and diversity of stories and creators, in video games. We look forward to these awards becoming an annual tradition.”
It’s sad to say that the queerest night in gaming had to come to an end, but don’t be sad. This is just the very first of a gaming award show that will be annual from now on – so if you haven’t managed to catch the show live yesterday, you’ll get your chance in the future! Of course, head on over to our official Twitch channel if you’d like to watch the VOD of the night.
