Detours Is a Messy, Queer Game About Moving Cross Country With Your Ex
Breaking up with someone is something that’s never been easy, but thanks to Mismatched Games and Code Coven you won’t have to deal with that in their game, Detours. Oh no, you’ll just have to handle the whole… well, moving cross country with them instead.
In Detours you play as Daniella, a woman who has decided to move back home to be with her family. The trouble with that, however, is that you’re unable to do this by yourself and you’ve got nobody else to turn to…apart from your ex, Mish. Awkward. It’s even worse when you realize that you’ve got to spend an enormously long time alone with them, all the whole breakup being the elephant in the room.
It isn’t just your broken relationship that will cause an issue, but the obstacles, road bumps, and detours that you’ll physically meet on the road. This can be wet roads, awkward silences, and even getting lost because hey, we’ve all done that. Couple all these instances with the awkward relationship between Daniella and Mish and boom, you’re in for a painfully awkward experience.
That said, Detours isn’t a game that wants you to feel utterly bad. It’s a game where moments of quiet, detours even, will let players embrace the human connection between Daniella, Mish, as well as the people they meet on their drive through the Midwest.
And who knows, maybe Daniella and Mish can save their relationship? To find out more, check out Detours on Steam.
