New Pokemon Snap officially announced for Nintendo Switch

So many Pokemon games, so little time!

21 years after its initial installment, The Pokemon Company has announced that Pokemon Snap will receive the sequel treatment with the tentatively titled New Pokemon Snap. A release date is currently pending.

Pokemon Snap, exclusively found on Nintendo 64, sold over 2,000,000 copies and was the 6th best selling video game of 1999. From Hal Laboratory, Pax Softnica and Nintendo, Pokemon Snap saw players posing as photographers to take pictures of the cute pocket monsters. With the help of apples and pester balls to achieve different reactions, players are then judged and graded on the quality of their photos.

New Pokemon Snap already has fans talking based on the updated graphics when compared to Pokemon Sword: Shield. This is due to the fact that Bandai Namco Studios has taken over the development reigns from Game Freak. Peep the beautiful announcement trailer below.

According to The Verge and Nintendo, the plot is summarized as:

“Travel to unknown islands with beautiful scenery like lush jungles and sandy beaches. The Pokémon pictures you take there will be used to build your very own Pokémon Photodex! This brand-new game brings the gameplay of the 1999 Pokémon Snap game for the Nintendo 64 system to life on the Nintendo Switch system with unknown islands to discover and different Pokémon to see!

Photograph lively wild Pokémon in their natural habitats as you research and explore unknown islands. Journey through a variety of environments such as beaches and jungles to capture previously-unseen Pokémon behaviors.
