EA is looking to “double down” on making Star Wars games

Love em or hate em, EA has created some stellar Star Wars games. Battlefront 1 and 2 both had their issues, with Battlefront 2 in particular going through such controversy that it changed the way the game was played.

Despite Battlefront 2’s shaky start, it has since become a game that’s well-loved, popular and still regularly pulls in new players. Of course, some of us are more than eager to look at a more single-player experience, which is partly the reason why Jedi: Fallen Order, for the most part, was met with such a positive attitude. There were still some issues with Fallen Order but it was, overall, a much-needed break from Star Wars multiplayer games.

With the success they’ve had with the Star Wars license, it makes sense that EA would be interested in creating more Star Wars games. In a ‘fireside chat‘, EA executives talked about “doubling down” on the Star Wars name. To put it bluntly, this means that more Star Wars games in the future.

“We have a tremendous relationship with Disney,” CEO Andrew Wilson stated in the fireside chat. “We have a tremendous relationship with Lucas. We have a longstanding relationship with them going all the way back to Star Wars The Old Republic that we launched in 2011.” He continued, “Disney continues to be very very committed to the IP and to the canon. We’ve got the combination of great IP, great development expertise and experience and success from us across genres, across platforms, across business models. And we’ve got new generations [of fans] coming to the IP all the time.”

As Star Wars fans, we’re very excited to hear that there will be more to enjoy in our favourite universe. It won’t be too long until that happens either, as Star Wars Squadrons will be releasing on Xbox One, PS4, and PC in October.
