Splatoon 2 gets a surprise bonus SplatFest

Splatoon 2 has to be one of the most popular shooters on the Nintendo Switch, and it’s easy to see why. It’s fun, colorful and has creative mechanics that makes each game you go into feel special — it just never gets old and I can truly say that I’m a little sad that I missed the hype for this game when it first came out.

It’s events, particularly SplatFest, were positively received too. The last SplatFest was in July last year as Nintendo decided to pull support for these events, but at least giving players the option to still play multiplayer all the same.

However, in a surprise turn of events, Nintendo have announced a bonus Splatfest. This time the teams are divided into Team Mayo and Team Ketchup, and it’s up to you to determine which sauce will come out on top.

The reason for this surprise SplatFest hasn’t been confirmed, but we can speculate that it could have been included in order to tease the reveal of a Splatoon 3. After all, the community for Splatoon is still going strong and I know I’ll be jumping on to give this SplatFest a go.

On the other hand, this could be Nintendo’s way of motivating people to stay indoors during this on-going pandemic. Sony has been doing similar with their Play At Home initiative.

Either way, we’re excited to jump back into the world of Splatoon 2, with the event happening next month on the 22nd of May. There has been no confirmation if this event will just be for US players, but we highly doubt it as SplatFests often include both the US and Europe. If that changes, however, we’ll be sure to update this article with that information.

Until then, keep on splatting everyone!
