The Cyberpunk 2077 faction ‘The Mox’ protects sex workers

Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t short on factions. It’s no real surprise, with a location as big as Night City to run around in. You’ve got your Voodoo Boys and The Animals, who were introduced early on in development. Yesterday, Cyberpunk 2077 revealed yet another faction, The Mox, a faction who are very much live and die when it comes to protecting sex workers.

This new information comes from a tweet from CD Projekt Red. In the tweet, it explains just who The Mox are and what they stand for.

“Formed in 2076 after the death of Elizabeth “Lizzie” Borden, a strip club owner & ex-prostitute who treated her workers fairly and defended them from violent clients, The Mox refer to themselves as “those who protect working girls and guys” from violence and abuse.”

No other information about them was given apart from a brief look at The Mox’s logo, but the information given in the tweet alone seems to paint a positive group that protects those who are treated unfairly, which I can get behind. As for how Cyberpunk 2077 will portray this group, as well as sex workers in general, does leave us feeling more than a little uncertain. We can only hope that CD Projekt Red handles this topic with the sensitivity and care that it deserves. Whether that’s possible, considering the company’s poor handling of transphobia both in and out of game, remains to be seen.

In other news, in the midst of this global pandemic, games like The Last Of Us 2 and Iron Man VR have been delayed. For Cyberpunk 2077 however, that doesn’t seem to be the case. In a post released yesterday, CD Projekt Red have stated that their “plans haven’t changed—we’re steaming towards the September release of Cyberpunk.”

September is still a long way to go, but it does give Cyberpunk 2077 more time to reveal other factions like The Mox, and, hopefully, more gameplay to to keep our spirits up until then.
