Birds of Prey Sequel Would Focus on Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy
Birds of Prey may have come out in February, but that hasn’t stopped me from thinking about it almost every day since release. It’s a movie that’s incredibly good fun, and if you’re like me, a person who is incapable of having enough Margot Robbie in their life, will leave you wanting a Bird of Prey sequel immediately.
Whether that’s possible remains to be seen, as the world is very much preoccupied with bigger and more important things right now, but that hasn’t stopped director of Birds of Prey, Cathy Yan, from speaking about what she’d like for the sequel anyway.
Speaking to The Wrap, Yan said that if she had the reins to create the Birds of Prey sequel that she wanted, it would focus on the relationship between our lovable, chaotic neutral villain, Harley Quinn and Dr Pamela Isley, a shrewd woman that also goes by the name of Poison Ivy. Their relationship hasn’t always been the best — just look at Injustice 2 — but they are a much healthier alternative to Harley and the Joker.
“I would love to see Poison Ivy and I would certainly love to see the relationship between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy,” she told The Wrap (via GameSpot). She isn’t the only one, Ivy and Harley have been well-loved by a lot of fans from the LGBT+ community ever since they first appeared together during the original Batman TV show in 1994. Even then there were a few hints of them being more than ‘just friends,’ but since then their romantic relationship has become more and more explicit.
A Birds of Prey sequel would be exactly what the doctor ordered – and by doctor, I mean my therapist – but if you want to get your romantic Harley and Ivy fix, then the animated Harley Quinn TV series have confirmed that they’ll be pursuing a Harley and Ivy romance in Season 2.
Thank you Cathy Yan and DC Gods, you’ve made the gays very happy today.
