Gender doesn’t matter in Animal Crossing: New Horizons character creator

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is on everyone’s mind, and for a good reason. It has so many things you can customize: your house, your clothes, your tools, and even your island. But it doesn’t stop there. Thanks to a video on Twitter, we now know that New Horizons character creator doesn’t care about your gender.

What we mean by this is that you’re not asked to include whether you’re male or female. As NintendoEnthusiast rightly points out, “gender has no impact on gameplay,” and thus the game doesn’t ask you to provide it.

New Horizons character creator not asking for gender is not all that new, but is a change of pace, as in previous games you would have certain customization options – such as clothes and hairstyles – not be available to you because of your gender. Very disappointing when we wanted to channel our inner butch.

As explained in the original tweet, players will start the game by going through the ‘check-in’ procedure. During that procedure, you’ll be asked for your name, birthday and a simple picture for your passport. Gender? I don’t know her.

As you can see in this video and from above, you’re able to change your look at the mirror too. We feel this is a great addition, and perfect for those players out there who just want to change their villager’s look to suit them and how they want to present.

It’s great that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will let players be themselves and remember, while it may not be a big deal to you, for someone out there, this choice of inclusivity has made them very happy and really? That’s all that matters.
