10 Video Game LGBT Icons that need to be in Smash

When I woke up this morning, I had no clue that I’d be writing about 10 video game LGBT icons that deserve to be in Smash. Of course, we know many gay icons in video games, and we know that at least one is already in Smash (it’s Peach, if you were wondering), but you know what? We need more gay icons in this beloved Nintendo brawler.

Of course, there’s always going to be a few we miss out. So, if there’s any you’d like to see, let us know in the comments below.

So, who’s first?

Erica (Catherine: Full Body)

Erica’s ultimate is me loving her unconditionally.

After everything Erica has been through, the casual transphobia from Vincent and co, and the Boss always leering after her whenever she works, it would be a damn crime if Erica didn’t get to pummel Sonic the Hedgehog in the face at least once.

Seriously Nintendo, do it for Erica.

Jimmy Hopkins (Bully)

We won’t be taking criticism for this one.

Not only is Jimmy a bisexual icon, but he is really good at beating people up. In fact, if we had to bet money on who would win between Donkey Kong and Jimmy, we’d bet on Jimmy each and every time.

So would all seven of Jimmy’s boyfriends and girlfriends. Think about it Nintendo, then give Rockstar a call.

Yuna, Rikku, and Paine (Final Fantasy X-2)

Ah, my bisexual queens.

I want to make it perfectly clear that I don’t mean the Kingdom Hearts 2 version of this bi-as-hell trio. Nope, we’re after the real deal and all their iconic goodness. Video game LGBT icons like these DESERVE to be in Smash.

Including these three types of bisexual gals in Smash Bros would officially cause Mario to declare that homophobia is over. They’d be totally overpowered of course, but so, so worth it.

Krem (Dragon Age)

Krem for a DA4 love interest, please.

With Dragon Age, a number of characters could be considered an LGBT icon (cough Isabela cough). But if I’m being honest, Krem deserves the adoration of the masses more than any other Dragon Age character.

Why? Because his adorable and his story of coming out as transgender was one of the most heartfelt moments in gayming history.

Undyne (Undertale)

I wish I was that boulder

Look, as a gay woman, a hot fish woman is like, my ultimate fantasy. Undyne ticks all those boxes and I want her to spear me in the chest. But anyway, I digress.

We already have gay icon, Sans, in Smash. Where is Undyne?! Hell, throw Alphys in there too. In fact, just put everyone in Undertale in Smash and call it Undertale 2.

Birdo (Mario)

video game LGBT icons
Birdo is just as much of an LGBT icon as Peach. FACT!

Smash already has a fair share of LGBT icons like Samus, Peach, Link and Zelda, but it is far from complete. Hence why Birdo, who made her first appearance in Super Mario Bros. 2, deserves to have her name alongside some of the greatest heroes of Nintendo.

She’s already in Mario Tennis Aces. Let’s get this cute dinosaur into a brawling ring!

Dante (Devil May Cry)

He has a huge sword, okay?

If you have a humongous sword that would leave anyone hurting after a run-in with it, you should automatically be allowed to be a character in Smash. I mean, just look at Cloud.

In all seriousness, Dante was a sexual awakening for loads of people before Devil May Cry 5 even released, making him overpowered in every sense of the word. So overpowered that even I get confused about myself when I look at Dante.

Alexios/Kassandra (Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey)

You get the BEEEST of both worlds!

I know what you’re thinking: Aimee, can you even count? The answer is no, of course not, but I don’t care.

I want Alexios and Kassandra to suplex Luigi off the stage with the strength of their thighs alone, and I don’t care how much I need to pay to make this happen.

Aerith (Final Fantasy VII)

I got lost in this pixelated lady’s eyes and I’m not remotely sorry about it

Aerith is the kind of character that everyone can’t help but fall in love with, which of course, would make her the deadliest enemy to ever be involved in Smash.

Bonus points if we can get Tifa in there somehow, and also an optional storyline where Aerith, Tifa and Cloud go out shopping for dresses together. Please Nintendo, I won’t ask anything of you ever again.

Poison (Street Fighter)

Poison could punch me in the heart and I’d thank her

Poison was first introduced as an enemy in the game Final Fight, before appearing in Street Fighter later on. She’s gone through so much, as someone who’s fabulous always does, and so, it’d be a crime not to include her in Smash.

I mean, just look at her hair. It’s enough to make anyone feel jealous.

Those were our top ten video game LGBT icons that belong in Smash! Were there any we missed? Let us know in the comments, or even on Twitter/Facebook.
