RPG farm sim SunnySide reveals romance options and more
SunnySide, an upcoming RPG farm sim from Merge Games, has revealed the player character’s many neighbours — and romance options — that they’ll meet in-game.
Players take on the role of a new farmer who’s purchased a plot of land in the Japanese countryside. The goal is to create a homestead you can be proud of and bring your farm into the modern world with brand-new technology that’ll make life a little bit easier. With your farm work not as difficult as before, players will have the time to head into the town of SunnySide itself and meet over 30+ very different townsfolk.
In the newest trailer for SunnySide (as seen below), Merge Games revealed the player character’s neighbours and romance options. These options were:
- Kat
Likes: All kinds of arts and self-expression.
Dislikes: Judgmental people
- Parsa
Likes: Dance music
Dislikes: Silence and being ordered around
- Hanako
Likes: Quiet people
Dislikes: People trying to control her
- Hiro
Likes: Technology and convenience
Dislikes: Asking for help, cooking
- Lucy
Likes: Soft colours and calming music
Dislikes: Crowds and cars
- Zander
Likes: Helping people
Dislikes: Alcohol and pineapple
This isn’t even the full list of romance options in SunnySide, though. According to co-founder Sydney Stockdale there are around 30 named NPCs, with 24 of them being potential romance options for the protagonist.
“Every named NPCs has a personality type, likes, dislikes, preferred activities, schedules, jobs, routines, families, back stories, and some will even have specific dating preferences,” Stockdale said. “Players will be offered a wealth of options to customize their experience throughout the game, but the relationship system provides tons of unique characters, stories, and perspectives.”
Alongside dating options, players will be able to customize their own character — even being able to choose whether they are gender-neutral or not. It is not confirmed whether gender presentation will affect who you can or cannot romance.
SunnySide will be available sometime in 2023.
