VCT Game Changers announces EMEA region format changes for 2023

On Wednesday, VCT (Valorant Champions Tour) announced the format changes that will be coming to the EMEA region for Game Changers competition in 2023.

“We’re listening and we’ve heard you – the one size fits all approach made sense when we started, but it doesn’t any more.,” the VCT wrote in its announcement blog post. “To provide an experience that better suits the variety of skill levels within the community, we’ve split the Game Changers circuit into distinct layers, with two different overarching themes and goals. Next year, we’re looking at a Game Changers circuit that provides a more beneficial experience for players of all skill levels.”

To this end, the EMEA region’s Game Changers scene for 2023 will be split into different tiers based on the skill levels of participating players and what they aim to gain from the experience. The VCT is creating VCT Game Changers EMEA: Emergents, which will offer newly-minted Radiant level players a special in-house, community Discord that will offer leaderboards and rewards, and will serve as a sort of central hub for EMEA Game Changers news and updates. The EMEA: Academy program will run alongside Emergents, which will provide educational resources for players about potential careers within the esports space.

The main VCT EMEA Game Changers league will now be split into two sections: VCT Game Changers Contenders and VCT Game Changers EMEA. A new series of regional events will be added to next year’s competition, which will serve as the avenue for teams who place in the top to qualify for a place in the Contenders series. Those who make it here will then battle it out for a spot in the main, 16-team league. Four of these 16 teams will be the top-four placing squads from 2022, which will include the likes of first-ever Game Changers World Champions G2 Gozen and their eternal rivals, Guild X.

The final tier of competition will be the Game Changers World Championship, where the top teams from EMEA will pit themselves against the best teams from the rest of the world.
