The Game Developers of Color expo came back for its seventh year this past weekend, and hosted the third GDoC Expo Direct. Part of the GDoC Expo Direct 2022 was the Indie Games Showcase, where a variety of games from around the world were shown off in new trailers and announcements. We’ve rounded up all of the LGBTQ+ titles that made an appearance in the showcase, so you can add them to your wishlists and games to keep an eye on.

ValiDate: Struggling Singles in Your Area
Veritable Joy’s ValiDate: Struggling Singles in Your Area is the first installment of a series of visual novels following a diverse cast of 20-30 somethings as they meet and build platonic, romantic, and even antagonistic relationships with each other. This debut volume has four playable characters to check out. The game will arrive on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One in September 2022.
Midautumn
Team Midautumn’s Midautumn is a “supernatural game about blasting evil spirits, reconnecting with your hometown, and Asian diaspora culture.” The developers describe it as “a little Hades and a little Butterfly Soup.” Midautumn is a fully voiced-acted, pixel art adventure that will be coming to Steam Early Access on May 9, 2023. Players will be able to fight enemies, drink boba, and change their fashion when the game launches in Early Access.
Solace State
Vivid Foundry’s Solace State is a 3D choice-driven cyberpunk visual novel following a young hacker named Chloe who is trying to gather her friends together in a militarized biotech city. The player’s interactions with other characters and factions, as well as how they exert their moral influence over the city will impact human rights in the future. There are three different romance options of different genders that Chloe can pursue, or she can pursue platonic relationships with them instead while still maintaining a presence in their lives.
Love Shore
Perfect Garbage’s Love Shore is a cyberpunk visual novel set in a future where 100 cyborgs were created by a biotech firm looking to solve the world’s fertility crisis. You can play as two different characters, Farah and Sam, both of whom are S. Humans (the aforementioned cyborgs). It’s up to you to help Sam and Farah decide if they’re going to acquiesce to fate, or try to conquer it.
