Lil Nas X and Sonic Fox are mutual fans of each other
Famous musician Lil Nas X and renowned fighting game champion Dominique “Sonic Fox” McLean have more in common than you might think. Both are young, queer, and black in spaces that have historically been hostile to people within those identities. Both have been wildly successful in those spaces despite that history, and any aggressions they’ve faced. And, both are big fans of each other.
When Lil Nas X came out as gay in 2019, Sonic Fox was cheering for him on twitter, sending the music star a gif of themselves dabbing in their iconic blue fox fur suit.
The two started interacting back in July of 2020, when Lil Nas X tweeted at Sonic Fox about wanting a fur suit.
“@SonicFox I want a fur suit,” Lil Nas X wrote on July 1, 2020.
“WHATS YOUR FURSONA,” Sonic Fox replied, adding, “ANSWER THE QUESTION OR FACE THE WRATH OF SHAO KAHN.”
The two have continued to interact online, but the mutual fandom was confirmed on Monday, when Lil Nas X replied to Sonic Fox on Twitter after their big win at EVO 2022 with a photo of the Sonic Fox plushie he had purchased.
“NO CHILL WHAAAAAAT?!” the Skullgirls champion replied.
They later went to their own Twitter to thank the singer for purchasing their plush.
“Ok so I LITERALLY don’t know how to express my gratitude @LilNasX for getting one of my plushies… Except to play MONTERO in my favorite fighting game ever (Skullgirls). ENJOY,” they tweeted, alongside a video of them playing Skullgirls and using the game’s sound effects to recreate the melody of MONTERO.
The nonbinary gamer also indicated that they’re very interested in streaming with Lil Nas X sometime.
“Just waiting for the day lilnasx decides to do a random video game stream with me and then my goals are complete for this lifetime,” they wrote.
