Life is Strange: True Colors gameplay introduces love interests Steph and Ryan

Life is Strange: True Colors is getting closer and closer to release, and now a new gameplay video is out and introduces us to love interests Steph and Ryan.

Fans have known for a while now that Alex Chen, our protagonist for this adventure, will have two love interests in the same vein as Max did in the original Life is Strange with Chloe and Warren. Unlike Max though, it doesn’t look like Deck Nine will be reinforcing a canon love interest and that Alex will have the option to flirt and make gooey eyes at both Steph and Ryan. We love to see it.

In this 13-minute gameplay video, we not only get to know more about Steph and Ryan and their jobs (a DJ and a Colorado State Park Ranger), but discover more about Alex and her relationship with her brother, Gabe. It turns out the two are pretty close, bonded together over a shared love of music.

It seems like music will be a big thing in Life is Strange: True Colors too, because this gameplay video doesn’t just show Steph and Ryan, but the music record store run by Steph too. Even outside of gameplay, the game has an incredible soundtrack with award-winning indie pop group, Angus & Julia Stone even creating an album (aptly titled Life is Strange) for the game. They are joined by Gabrielle Aplin, Radiohead, Phoebe Bridgers and more. Even Alex’s singing voice will be done by the talented, indie artist mxmtoon.

Outside of music, this look at Life is Strange: True Colors gameplay also shows off a quick look at what Alex’s unusual, empathetic powers feel like. After an angry outburst from Steph on the phone, Alex looks like she’s in physical pain and seems to mirror a lot of Steph’s movements and mannerisms, such as the tapping of her shoe and the clenching of fingers into fists.

Life is Strange: True Colors is set to launch on September 10th for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia.
