Cyberpunk 2077 returns to the PlayStation Store despite issues
Cyberpunk 2077 should have launched to well-wide acclaim considering the hype it generated, even if that hype was built on toxic masculinity and blatant transphobia. Instead, the game and CD Projekt Red quickly became the butt of the internet’s joke due to the number of bugs, glitches, and it being downright unplayable. So much so, that Cyberpunk 2077 was eventually removed from the PlayStation Store.
Cyberpunk 2077 being removed from the PlayStation Store only solidified the idea that was appearing in most people’s heads: this game’s messy launch went much deeper than just a few glitches. This became more and more obvious as the information behind the game’s disastrous launch started to be revealed online, including Jason Schreier’s piece about before and after launch.
Today, Cyberpunk 2077 returns to the PlayStation Store.
“You can play the game on PlayStation 4 Pro and PlayStation 5. Additionally, a free next-gen upgrade will be available for all owners of the PS4 version of Cyberpunk 2077 in the second half of 2021,” is the official information given via the game’s official Twitter account.
Players are able to purchase the game over at the PlayStation Store now yes, however the game still has an important notice that is shown in the game and legal information section. It reads: “IMPORTANT NOTICE: Users continue to experience performance issues with this game. Purchase for use on PS4 systems is not recommended. For the best Cyberpunk experience on PlayStation, play on PS4 Pro and PS5 systems.”
There have been some jokes from fans that the game is finally leaving early access, but this is more troubling than those jokes would suggest considering that game still has a ton of issues on the base PS4 – constant crashes, poor rendering, and a frame rate that often stutters. However, to say there haven’t been any improvements at all would be false. It’s ultimately up to you, the player, to decide whether playing on the PS4 is worth it or not.
Considering that even the store itself advises you the game isn’t recommended on base PS4 systems – despite being purchasable on the store for PS4 – should tell you everything you need to know about this particular decision.
