Warner Bros Game’s President Says J.K Rowling Has The “Right” To Hold Her Transphobic Opinions
We’ve stated before: we have no desire to cover Hogwarts Legacy or anything Potter related in the future. However, we’ll gladly cover anything to do with Rowling and her transphobic opinions, in a bid to make it clear: transphobia has no place in society and to reward it? It’s unacceptable.
Warner Bros Games’ President clearly didn’t get the same memo. In a report from Jason Schreier, president David Haddad addressed questions surrounding Rowling and her continuous transphobic comments that she posts online.
“While JK Rowling is the creator of Harry Potter, and we are bringing that to life with the power of Portkey, in many places, she’s a private citizen also,” Haddad explained. “And that means she’s entitled to express her personal opinion on social media. I may not agree with her, and I might not agree with her stance on a range of topics, but I can agree that she has the right to hold her opinions.”
Schreier later added that “Haddad answered a question about diversity/inclusion by adding that WB Games is working with LGBTQ rights orgs and that he spent an hour and a half talking to the director of trans media representation at GLAAD. No mention of Rowling or Harry Potter there.”
Haddad is right about one thing. Rowling does have a right to hold her so-called ‘opinion’, but we also have a right to call her out on that and not purchase anything to do with her. Because trans rights are human rights, and we can only speak for ourselves, but here at Gayming Magazine? Our trans brothers, sisters and non-binary folks come first.
