Microsoft is not done in acquiring developers

Microsoft made history earlier this week by paying just over 7 million dollars to acquire ZeniMax, the parent company of well-known publisher, Bethesda. Their acquisition sparked heated debates and rumours of whether games like Elder Scrolls 6 or Fallout 5 would be Xbox exclusives. For better or worse, it turns out that Microsoft isn’t done in acquiring developers.

Speaking to CNet, Satya Nadella – CEO of Microsoft – stated that the company would consider acquiring more studios in the future. Considering they just spent more than Disney did to get Star Wars for Bethesda, we don’t doubt that Microsoft have more than enough money to get game studios that’ll rocket the Xbox into first-party glory.

Buying game studios also helps with getting content to Xbox and Microsoft straight away instead of having to build a studio from scratch. “You can’t wake up one day and say, ‘Let me build a game studio.” Nadella said. “The idea of having content is so we can reach larger communities.”

While this news has no doubt excited people, some are concerned about Xbox monopolizing third-party game studios in order to get more exclusives, and possibly stifling creativity in the process.

  • Haha good! Things will change for better for Xbox users this time around (and just to mention that this time Xbox hardware is superior and more powerful to PS5), and since I have PC with Windows 10 it means more games for PC users too, very good move Microsoft!

  • Good, this time Xbox X is more powerful than PS5 hardware wise, also this would mean more games for Windows 10/PC users which is awesome! Awesome move Microsoft 🙂
